Jen's Last Day at Work

This is the little notebook I covered, that the entire office is signing for Jen's retirement. We're throwing a retirement lunch today - Dinosaur BBQ is catering. We've ordered a big fancy cake from that Fairport bakery. We're eating outside - should be fun!

I'm so genuinely happy for Jen, but the sad emotion is catching up with me. Others have been talking about how they are going to cry when it's time to say goodbye. I know I will too because, duh, that's who I am. But I'm really just so happy for her. Saturday I was sitting across from Steve at Denny's, eating breakfast, when I casually mentioned that Wednesday is Jen's last day - and my eyes filled up with tears. Oops, there it is.

I'm speaking at Jen's lunch today. Just a little something I wrote about the first time we bonded over crafts. Hope I make it through it.

We'll stay in touch so that will be fine. Jen's predecessor is returning to our office to take back her old job - she's a friend, so thankfully I don't have to spend any energy breaking in a new friend. :-)

But first, I have a periodontist appointment at 8:00 for some deep scaling. I'm going to try to do it without Novocaine. I think I have before - it hurts at the moment, but it's nice not waiting for the Novocaine to kick in - or to wear off. Especially when I'll be eating delicious pulled pork.

Send me good vibes today please?

As a recent retiree I can tell you that as happy an occasion as it is, it is hard on the retiree as well as those being left. Congrats to Jen!

There seems to be a trend in California State Gummint to forego the big honkin' retirement luncheon. In my parents' dasy, there always was one. I'm torn. I think we'll have... CAKE. "Let them eat cake," I will cry! When I got there, I commented that it was the cake-eatinest bunch I ever saw (and I was on Atkins), so why not end it the same way? In about three or so years, I guess, sigh.

I meant, "day." Also, I really like the covered book...

Beautiful book! I don't know how you have the patience for these things.

And I cannot WAIT til I retire! No party necessary. Just help me box up my stuff and get it to my car! :)
